With an immense amount of history, stunning castles, delicious cuisine and plenty of adventure to be had, let's dive into beautiful Lithuania.

Lithuania’s History Has Shaped The Country

The Kindom of Lithuania was created in the 13th century and was the largest country in Europe as it spread out into Belarus, Ukraine and even parts of Poland and Russia.

From 1569 to  1785, the countries of Poland and Lithuania were united to form the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. However, after Napoleon was unable to invade Russia, the Russian Empire decided to invade Lithuania, taking much of their land. This meant that, essentially, Lithuania ceased to exist until 1918 during the Bolshevik revolution when the country finally declared independence after years of revolting against Russia.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t the end of their tumultuous times, with Poland then invading Lithuania and occupying the capital, Vilnius. This lasted for 20 years, before Russia annexed Lithuania once more, occupying much of the country.

Then, in the early 1990s, after the fall of the Soviet Union, the Act of Re-Establishment of the State of Lithuania was signed, creating a second independence day.

It’s fair to say that Lithuania has had quite a rough time over the years, but now it has flourished as a beautiful location growing in tourist popularity. Finalrentals Lithuania are immensely proud to continue to bring happy customers to this wonderful country,

Lithuania Is Full Of Amazing Attractions

There are plenty of UNESCO World Heritage Sites to peruse, medieval castles to transport you back in time and natural wonders for an adventure.

Wherever you decide to visit in Lithuania, you will find it’s a quirky and colourful country, evident in its architecture, traditions and people.

What makes travelling in Lithuania even better is its small size, meaning you can see much of the country on a budget! This is something Finalrentals Lithuania believes in and that’s why we always have competitive prices so you don’t have to compromise on your itinerary.

We also believe in making your travel plans even easier, so provide dozens of blogs about our favourite places and activities while you’re in Lithuania!

Vilnius, the capital, has it all. The Baroque Old Town is a spectacle of stunning architecture with Gothic, renaissance and neoclassical influences around every corner. The atmosphere is palpable during the day, but the city really comes alive at night when the bars, nightclubs and bars open. This is the perfect opportunity to let your hair down and party with the locals, especially if you visit the traditional Lithuanian pubs.

If it’s a more historic destination that you want to see, then Trakai should be one of your top choices. Home to Trakai Salos Island Castle and once the former capital of Lithuania, it is a beautiful area to walk around, surrounded by lush green landscapes. Visit the colourful Karaites community, and the stunning churches before wandering around Trakai Historical Park.

Of course, there are plenty more attractions in Lithuania, including our top recommendations of Kaunus, Klaipeda, The Hill of Crosses, plus the Curionian Spit and Nida. All part of the Finalrentals Lithuania package, there’s no stress when planning your itinerary for your dream holiday.

Embracing The Lithuanian Culture

To Lithuanians, family is integral, with many generations living together. All other parts of life revolve around family, with relatives as the top priority for most. Religion is always important, especially Roman Catholic.

There are also festivals happening in Lithuania with participants often in traditional dress. One of the most spectacular events is the Lithuanian Song and Dance celebration which happens every four years. If you can time your trip right, you’re in for a delight. In fact, the event is so highly regarded that it has been awarded by UNESCO as Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The festival lasts a week and Lithuanians from all over the country gather for the celebration, with everyone encouraged to participate in the performance.

The Lithuanian culture and people are part of the reason Finalrentals are proud to have a team here. With our 24/7 customer service and quality vehicles, we promise that your Finalrentals Lithuanian story will be a smooth journey from the very first steps.
